Vocational Placement - Pathology

Hair shoulder length of longer must be tied back off the face in a neat and tidy manner |

Fingernails should be short and clean, only clear nail polish to be worn. Artificial nails are not acceptable. |

Permitted jewellery – wedding band/engagement ring, wristwatch, a single sleeper or stud in the lower lobe of the ear. |

Clothing: Male: • Black or grey trousers (not jeans) and white shirt • Black or brown dress shoes (enclosed – no joggers) Female: • Black skirt or slacks and white blouse (skirt must be alt least knee length) • Enclosed court shoes (no joggers) • Pantyhose is preferred |
All persons attending Mater Pathology for vocational placement are doing so primarily in the role of an observer under the guidance and supervision of Mater Pathology staff. Pathology duties will be undertaken by staff of Mater Pathology and students are responsible to the Manager.
Phlebotomy may be performed by the student under the following criteria:
• the patient is always advised that the person is a vocational placement student,
• the patient must consent to the student performing venipuncture,
• the patient has a good palpable vein,
• the student has one attempt only and,
• the student is supervised by an experienced phlebotomist throughout the procedure.
The location of vocational placement will be at the discretion of Mater Pathology with the aim of placing students geographically according to their residential address and in consultation with the student.

Clinical Placement - Diploma of Nursing
Students must adhere to Mater Health Services policies and procedures whilst on clinical placement and at all other times when on campus. Medical certificates are required for absences from clinical placement as the attendance requirement is 100%. Students are expected to notify their clinical facilitator and course coordinator prior to any absences.
Uniforms will be provided.
Students provide their own footwear which should be appropriate and completely enclosed i.e. no open toe or backless shoes. (see dress code - shoes)
